Like most countries Australia has a ‘winner takes all’ political system.
Whoever wins dictates policy for the whole country.
Another approach is to have different tax and spending regimes for progressive and conservative electorates. This would reduce ‘red-blue’ conflict and keep the country together.
PROGRESSIVE | CONSERVATIVE |
---|---|
Normal taxes, higher benefits | Discounted taxes, lower benefits |
►Normal taxes | ►Discounted personal income tax. ►CGT discount and negative gearing for property in a conservative electorate continues |
►Expanded Medicare + Denticare | ►Reduced Medicare, no denticare |
►Improved pensions and benefits | ►Reduced pensions and benefits |
►Public schools | ►Private schools |
►New affordable housing | ►No new affordable housing |
Progressive society | Conservative society |
►Multicultural society | ►Judeo-Christian mono-culture encouraged |
►Migrants allowed to settle | ►No funding for migrants |
►LGBTQI+ accepted | ►LGBTQI+ discouraged |
►Regulates Government supply of some recreational drugs | ►Continued attempted prohibition of recreational drugs except alcohol and tobacco |
►Flexiweek | ►No Flexiweek |
New energy | Old energy |
►Wind & large farms permitted where appropriate | ►No new wind turbines or large solar farms |
►No fission nuclear power. (Fusion research and power may occur) | ►Nuclear power permitted – subject to private funding and safety issues (?) |
We anticipate that between one quarter and one third of electorates would consider themselves strongly conservative.
The government would refund State stamp duty for citizens moving from Progressive to Conservative electorates. This would be funded by reducing State grants by the same amount.
