Nuclear-armed superpowers rule

Australia needs to keep a low profile to avoid invasion by a major power that wants our resources.

Our military posture is The Echidna Strategy.

This strategy means we don’t threaten anyone else but are as expensive as possible to attack.

Good news for the USA

  • The US Navy now gets three more nuclear submarines since we can’t afford to buy or wait till they are available.
  • The US government gets to keep the ~$US 3 billion deposit we paid for them because it is non-refundable.
  • We are interested in selling our surface navy, the US Navy could acquire at reasonable cost.
  • We are interested in buying some US military equipment … provided we can operate it independently from Australia.
  • We have no intention of trying to shut down US bases in Australia.
  • We have no intention or capability to interfere in affairs outside of our own continent.

Good news for PRC

  • We have no intention or capability to interfere in affairs outside of our continent, and do not plan to acquire such capability.
  • No plan to force the Chinese company Landbridge to sell the Port of Darwin.
  • We are keen to trade with the PRC – our commodities and tourism for their EV’s, trains, planes, etc.
  • No White Australia Policy from us.

Good news for Russia

  • If the war with EU is settled reasonably then various trade options including possible weapons purchases become feasible. (Su-57, Su-34 instead of warships?)

Good news for India

Good news for EU, UK & Japan

  • Closer economic & military ties.
  • Shared values.

(If right wing parties take over in the EU and UK then this could change)

Good news for ASEAN, Organisation of Islamic States & PNG

Good news on Foreign Aid

We support increasing foreign aid and spending it where it will do the most good. We will not be able to help much in war zones we cannot get access to such as Gaza and Sudan.

Good news for the UN

We support re-establishing the UN and a rules based order as soon as this becomes feasible.

It could be that some parts of the world become ‘rules based’ while others remain ‘the wild west’ (?). If so we could be interested in any regional block of nations with reasonable rules.

No unilateral sanctions

These are futile, sanctions need to be supported by at least one superpower.
